Description

Vortex is a platform for real-time interactive simulation and multichannel visualization of mechanical systems with contact physics. It includes modules for wheeled and tracked vehicles, cables, and dynamic terrain simulation. Vortex is used by application developers to build physically accurate motion models and interactive behaviors for demanding industrial and defense applications such as training, virtual testing, mission planning, and visualization.

Developers use Vortex to interface and cosimulate control, hydraulic, and electrical systems designed with MATLAB® and Simulink® to real-time dynamics modeled with Vortex. Vortex embeds Simulink models into Vortex simulations. During the modeling phase, both the Vortex Editor and Simulink applications can run side by side for fast development. Vortex supports the execution of multiple Simulink models in a simulation, as well as the connection to multiple Vortex mechanisms into a Simulink model. Vortex communicates with Simulink over TCP/IP, which enables demanding models to be executed on separate computers for real-time performance.

With Vortex software, developers can build a wide range of real-world applications such as cranes, defense vehicles, mobile robots, and heavy equipment—complete with accurate simulation of the operating environments. All Vortex software meets the highest standards for technical validation, with a testing framework that allows performance to be consistently measured for purposes of regression testing, verification, and validation.
