Developing Reliable and Scalable Decision Support Systems
Ariel Fischer, Trient Asset Management
Scientists spend an ever-increasing amount of time writing code. However, what scientists know about software development is primarily self-taught or from peers. Consequently, many are unaware of principles and practices that can help in writing code that is more testable, more maintainable, and more reliable. This session focuses on systems development and the challenges that a coupled code base introduces, with respect to testability and how the fear of change can inhibit progress. Ariel describes how applying unit testing, source control, and object orientation in MATLAB® can greatly improve code quality and productivity of teams by using a concrete example from Trient.
