Simulating Highly Complex Systems to Deliver the Next Generation of Jaguar Land Rover Vehicles
Andy Richardson, Jaguar Land Rover
The latest generation of premium luxury vehicles are in fact highly complex control systems. 70 electronic control units monitor 3000 data signals up to 100 times a second to make decisions across 40 powertrain, chassis, safety, body, and infotainment interconnected and interdependent systems. Up to 2000 customer features are controlled by 10 million lines of code. Delivering these vehicles presents a major technical challenge for today’s engineers whilst highly competitive markets demand that engineers deliver more complex vehicles faster, at lower cost but with total system robustness.
Jaguar Land Rover is solving these challenges through a holistic and integrated approach to Model-Based Design with over 500 engineers using MATLAB and Simulink to create whole vehicle system models. These models are used to assess tens of thousands of customer use cases. It would not be possible to deliver a Jaguar Land Rover vehicle today without Model-Based Design.
